"Stories come naturally, they come from us – it is not an art that is only learnt by a few."

I can’t remember the exact moment I decided I wanted to be a filmmaker. I know I was around 11 and to this day I don’t really know why I set my heart on such a random career. I still seem to be listening to my 11-year-old self however. It’s the same look of confusion when I tell people, yes I want to be a film director, no I study Theology. The seemingly oddest juxtaposition, especially when some don’t even know what Theology is. I don’t regret not going to film school though; on the contrary I know in truth I probably would’ve hated it. Art by its definition is how we express our understanding of the world around us. Stories come naturally, they come from us – it is not an art that is only learnt by a few. Everyone has the ability to tell a story, and those stories can be seen in life all around, not just in a filmmaking manual. I chose not to study art because I don’t want instruction on how I should be interpreting the world.
